Abstract

Call for Abstracts – AWR Deep Impact: RED 2027

The Scientific Committee of AWR Deep Impact: RED warmly invites surgeons, fellows, and postgraduate residents from around the world to contribute to the academic program of the conference, to be held in Mumbai, India, from 25–28 March 2027.

If you have an idea, innovation, research project, clinical experience, technical video, complication, or learning point that can advance the field of Hernia Surgery and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction (AWR), we encourage you to submit your work.

Abstracts not accepted for a named session will automatically be considered for Free Paper, E-Poster, or Free Video categories where appropriate.

Outstanding submissions from Free Paper and Video categories may also be upgraded to named presentations by the Scientific Committee.

Awards will be presented for the two best presentations in each of the following categories.

Submission Policies

  • Submitted work must be original and must not have been submitted to any other upcoming regional, national, or international scientific meeting.
  • A maximum of three abstracts per presenter may be submitted.
  • The same study or dataset may not be submitted simultaneously as both a written abstract and a video abstract.
  • Presenting authors must complete conference registration within two weeks of abstract acceptance for their presentation to remain eligible.
  • Acceptance into named sessions is competitive and subject to reviewer scoring and available presentation slots.
  • The Scientific Committee reserves the right to reassign submissions to a more appropriate category.
  • All acceptance decisions are final.

Presentation Time: 6 minutes.

Videos must be uploaded to YouTube and submitted through a private link.

Named Sessions

Presentation Time: 5 minutes

1. The flagship competitive video session of DI RED.

2. World-class original work that challenges current dogma, or provides high-level clinical evidence capable of changing practice.

3. Only the top submissions selected by reviewers will be featured in the Oscar Session.

Presentation Time: 3 minutes

1. A focused presentation centred around a single transformative lesson, concept, innovation, or insight that has the potential to influence how surgeons operate, teach, or think.

2. One message. Maximum impact.

Presentation Time: 6 minutes

Presentations should include:

  • Diagnosis
  • Management strategy
  • Lessons learned
  • Final outcome

Imaging, photographs, and short videos are encouraged.

Presentation Time: 4 minutes

1. The innovation incubator of DI RED.

We invite submissions showcasing:

  • Novel techniques
  • New instruments
  • Innovative workflows
  • Original concepts
  • Creative solutions to existing problems

2. Presentations should clearly define the problem and demonstrate how the proposed innovation offers a superior solution.

Presentation Time: 5 minutes

1. Everything mesh.

Topics may include:

  • Mesh selection
  • Mesh biology
  • Mesh deployment strategies
  • Infection management
  • Novel mesh technologies
  • Future developments

Presentation Time: 5 minutes

1. A dedicated named session for members of the AbWall Tribe.

2. Young surgeons and fellows are encouraged to present original research, technical insights, and clinical experiences in Herniology and AWR.

Eligibility

The presenter must be a registered Young AbWall Tribe member. (Criteria for ab wall tribers : age less than 45)

Presentation Time: 5 minutes

1. A special session dedicated to abdominal wall and hernia surgery in, by, and for women.

Areas of interest include:

  • Hernia repair in women
  • Management of the round ligament during TAPP/TEP
  • Post-partum diastasis recti
  • Umbilical hernias
  • Pelvic floor considerations
  • Abdominal wall reconstruction following major gynecological surgery

Presentation Time: 5 minutes

(Oral, Video, or Hybrid Format)

1. A celebration of anatomy as the foundation of hernia and abdominal wall surgery.

Submissions may focus on:

  • Surgical anatomy
  • Technical anatomy
  • Anatomical pearls and tips
  • New anatomical interpretations
  • Anatomical insights that improve surgical outcomes
